Perspective fun

Man! This is so cool!!
The first look at those picture, you may feel there are some lines or circle superimposed on the photograph, but it turns out that those lines are actually in the scene. Looking at a different angle, it won't be the beautiful shapes anymore. I wonder how he calculate out all the precise position of the paints, does he has a 3D model of the whole scene and raytrace it back from the optical center?

Check out his website:
Felice Varini

One of the coolest, with mirror:
mirror lines
Click on "Hor point de vue" and select "Ouvrir" to see the scene from other angles.

Oh, there's actually a page in English explaining about his passion about architectural space.

Thanks shih ching for showing the picture to us, and Danno for getting the original website.

Don't ask me about my thesis

Thanks Angie for organising the T-shirt. It's great!!

Here you can see the front. The back has all the names of senior postgrads in CSSE making up the phrase.

I like it, I like a lot, it's a good T-shirt!

Yekleng's wedding photo

YekLeng's wedding photos are up at yekleng's space.
Very nice. Go and have a look.

I'll be back to Malaysia on 24/3 to attend their wedding on 26th. And I'm honoured to be one of his "brother" team to help him in any way to win the bride on the day. I'm very excited.

Eventful week

The last week was packed with events.
Badawi's visit to Perth, O-Day, AMWA BBQ and neighbour's Birthday party.

I've blogged about Badawi's meeting with student, so I'll go on to his Honourary Doctorate conferement ceremony. I went to Curtin Uni on Wednesday morning for the ceremony. It took several correspondances to get my name on the list to be admitted into the ceremony. And on the day, there are many security personnels there for the event. But surprisingly, there's no registration process to get in, so anyone could just pop in and will be able to get in...
Anyway, the ceremony was ok, the aboriginal welcome was interesting with the didgeridoo. I was surprised to find that the chancellor of Curtin Uni, Eric Tan was born in Malaysia, it made the event even more special. :)
See here for photos I took and put on AMWA website.

Friday was Orientation Day on UWA. I helped set up a stall for the long-non-publicised Table tennis club. We moved a table tennis table to James Oval where the event was and it turned out to be a very very good publicity tool. Got quite some people signed up on the day and many more showed interest. And Derong's idea of making a sticker instead of just hand out flyers turned out to be very effective as well. :)
We are in the process of getting more tables and more playing time for the club for our expansion.
It was a fun day. Haven't been involved with clubs for a long time. But we all got sun burnt. :`( It hurts.

Saturday, AMWA had a family BBQ in Kings park near by. About 60 people showed up, and many people brought a plate of great food to share. It was good. And I met quite a few people of my age as well. So it was good. Photos of the day, see here.

Then Saturday night my neighbour had a birthday party. So we went over. I was amazed by the stylishness of his garden and living room. He is a talented architect, I can tell.

My resarch work lags quite a bit this week. Will tune into work hard mode as my prime minister told me to do so.

Thanks Thomas for giving me this group photo taken with my prime minister Badawi and other UWA students. It is an honour.

Face recognition stuffs

I went to a psychology seminar on the topic "Unfamiliar faces aren't faces" which talks about the diffference between familiar and unfamiliar face recognition. An interesting paper here.

I then went off to try to find out about the face grid its uses in the paper and how it come about and maybe that'll be useful to my morphing research. Then I found out about this great document on face recognition.
Report on Facial Expression Understanding by Ekman, Huang, Sejnowski and Hager.

And Wiskott has a bibliography on face recognition:

Badawi is in Perth

The Consulate General of Malaysia organised a meeting between the Hon Dato Seri’ Abdullah Bin Haji Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia and all Malaysian students currently pursuing tertiary education in Perth, Western Australia.
I was one of the 250 students who were there today. Badawi is in Perth to receive the honourary doctorate to be conferred to him tomorrow by Curtin University of Technology, see new release on Curtin website.

I got there at around 3:30pm, the ballroom was easy to find in the Hyatt hotel because there is a big concentration of Malaysians at the side of the main entrance. So I made my way there and put in my registration under UWA.

The seatings were dining style in a big ballroom. I happened to find an empty seat on the second row of table, with some student leaders (ISC and AMS) from Curtin. I was quite impressed with their manner the moment I joined the table and thought they must have good involvement in student organisation and it was proven to be right later when they turned out to be the office bearers. :)

The MC gave some general briefing about the flow of program, and without noticeable delay (I wasn't looking at my watch) Badawi arrived.

We sang Negaraku and a new song called "Jalur Gemilang", there was a bacaan doa (prayer), and then the PM gave his speech and took some questions/comments.

Some of the points I took down from his speech:

Students today are decision-makers tomorrow. It's the human capital that countries and companies are trying to utilise well. He stressed on the point that "first class facilities" has to be matched with "first class mentality" of the people managing it. Ya, very true, that's a serious shortcomings that Malaysia suffers and has to overcome ASAP.

He then discussed about what makes a "Man of Quality" that can serve a country/company well? Smart is not enough, it's more important to have good value, be honoest and sincere, ie have a good character. He said it in Malay which I am glad that I still understand - "Pandai tapi tipu --> lagi susah!"

He also mentioned about some plan of Malaysian government such as the emphasis on bio-technology (the wonders that oil palm produces through R&D), pharmaceutical area, and he made a point on corruption fighting struggle as well.

He ended his speech by re-emphasis a point he made at the beginning:

It's not that you're not capable, it's that you're not putting in enough work, effort, focus!
There is no easy way to success, Work hard!

There were some refreshment at the end of it, and group photo then bersurai.

It finished at 7pm. I left the hotel and headed to my car. To my astonishement, there was a ticket on my windscreen, I thought: "Not again?!". Double checking the expensive piece of paper and the road sign, revealed that it is a pay parking bay till 4:15pm, which I read in a hurry when I arrived, but I miss the top of it in red "C 4:15-6pm". After 4:15pm, it's not free parking as I thought but NO PARKING!
That makes the meeting with Badawi quite a lot more expensive.
Oh well, it was my fault to rush and not checking it throughly. Lesson learnt.

Check up your car regularly

One day after I got my harddisk failure resolved, my car gave me another surprise!
I went to another AMWA monthly committee meeting on Saturday. I drove to the city parked my car in the Pier Street carpark. After the long meeting which centered around new membership, this coming week BBQ in Kings park and our Prime Minister Badawi's visit to Perth, I went back to the car park and get my car at 12:30pm.

Strange thing happened - my immobilisor didn't respond. It keeps flashing and immobilise my car!! So my car cannot move. The following 1.5 hours, I was there making callssss to find people to help solve the problem. The fact that it was a Saturday really made the situation harder! And it was not easy to get a car electrician that will come out to fix it. And beore the incidence, I didn't know it's car electrician's area of expertise. Tried locksmith and it was no good and the people they refered me to was too busy for the job.

So eventually, I got a friend (Thanks a lot Lingcai!) to make some calls to locate the right person. He agreed to come by at 3pm. I was glad and I had some time to fill up my stomach. So I did that and strolled around the city and got a stereogram book from the secondhand bookshop. I was quite happy by then. :)

The rest was not adrama anymore, the car electrician came by with his son and put a new immobilisor in, messy wiring and awkward working condition in the not-very-well-lit carpark. The electrician's son looks very asian, and it turns out that his wife is Chinese, from JB, Malaysia. Ha!
It cost me $120 for the whole lot. And being in the carpark for another 3 hours after I paid at 12:30pm, I thought I might need to pay some stupid amount of parking again before I can get out. But I told the cashier guy about the incidence and he was very nice to let me go. So, I was happy again. :)

I got out of the carpark, it's 3:45pm! I went to do some quick groceries shopping and got my hair cut too. What a day!

Scientific American: One Face, One Neuron

Scientific American: One Face, One Neuron

This is cool!!

Back up your computer NOW!

My small 20GB harddisk died on Thursday morning. :`(

I heard some sound (later I found out it's called the "click of death") coming from my computer box on Wednesday afternoon. I was a hot day and I hibernated my computer straight after. That night it was still fine. But I did a shutdown that night and Thursday morning, it refused to boot.

I went to get a new harddisk with 10x capacity. WD2000JB - Western Digital 200GB HDD with 8MB cache. Got it from Netplus (again). If I went there 2 hours earlier, I might be able to get a 250GB one with only $6 more. It was "on low stock" when I first checked, but became out of stock just before I left my house. Oh well, 200GB should be plenty anyway.

So I spent quite some time getting the system back on. Now it's back to life, but I lost some data.

Not sure if I'll go for the Raid system to make two harddisk work together with redundancy to ensure minimal data lost in such case... Not sure how much effort will be required to set it up. If it's too much, I'll probably back it up regularly manually...

May your hard disk be strong.

Chat in Gmail. Cool!

Google has just included Google Talk into Gmail. I tried it, it's a good idea. One more IM to play with. But GTalk emoticon is still very primitive compare to what MSN has to offer. But here (on the left) are some cute stuffs I found. More on GTalk emoticons.

I heard news that Yahoo has exposed its users details and led to some internet journalists being jailed in China. Got the news from screenshots.

When the information leave your computer into the www, it is out there to be exposed. So although the internet site claims that they'll keep your thing private to you, if you really don't want people to see it, keep it safe on your own PC.
And all these free internet email providers have no obligation to keep your data anyway. If they want, they can just shut down Gmail and blogger or anything like that and all our precious emails and contacts, all our efforts of blogging will be gone!
So I think I shall back up all these things on a regular basis to avoid a tragic story!

To hack or not to hack?

I'm wondering if I'm the only person in the whole world who uses anim8or to generate test images with known camera parameters and then uses MATLAB to work with the images, with those known camera parameters...

Hmm... I guess I'm not the only one as I know SQ is using it as well. (we sit back to back in the lab.)

There's some weird thing I don't understand why. The images from Anim8or have a half pixel distance difference from what is calculated from Matlab?! For example, a textured cube with 8 vertices in space, I know the vertices, I know the position and pyr of the camera, so in anim8or, I position everything as desired and render the image. No problem! When I get this image into Matlab, I calculate the image points using the vertices and camera matrix and overlay them on the image, strangely enough, the two set sof points don't exactly match. But, it matches exactly when I add 0.5 to all the image points I calculated in Matlab!

So, to have a good morph (as that's what my research is on in case you don't know), I have to have the feature points exactly on. But it'll screw up the fundamental matrix and the projective geomatry because the image point is HACKED!

Well... What should I do to get over this? The great spirit of the universe, please enlighten me!

Professor Terzopoulos won Oscar

Found it on Ramesh Jain’s Blog that Terzopoulos just won the Scientific and Technical Academy Awards! See it here and here.

I knew Terzopoulos from his work in "snakes" (energy minimisation spline) with Kass. And I came across Jain's work too through similarity measure...

It's funny to know that Jain has a blog as well. I'll be checking it out to see what this distinguised researcher usually does.

Rotation Matrix again

I'm back to doing som experiment and want to generate some random 3D points and then some random cameras that point to those points. So, I have to set the random focal length (within some range), the position of the center of image (principle point) and the rotation matrix for the camera to face the point cloud.

I forgot how to do them already, so some online readings directed me to these good sources:

Chinese New Year Eve Celebration

Chinese New Year in Perth with no family members around can be rather home-sick, so we helped ourselves by organising a get-together. David and me played host, and everyone made something out for the night. As shown in the photo, we did pretty well.
Clockwise from NE is Lingcai's bakuteh(肉骨茶), my mushroom-y vegies, Yeeting's Oyster lamb stew, my luohan vegetarian dish(罗汉斋), Toh's curry with drowned eggs, Yeeting's Hakka stuffed beancurb(客家酿豆腐), David's corn soup(粟米羹) and steam fish.
Not in the photo are grilled chicken still in oven and Fanta orange drink (which reminds me of Chinese New Year every time I have it as I usually only have it during CNY) brought by Ivy, Weiqi and Duyang.

We cover 5 nationalities from only 8 people - China, Hongkong, Singapore, Brunei and Malaysia, and we all celebrate CNY back home. :)
(Well, HK is part of china, but Hongkong people are still distinct enough to be separated from mainland Chinese on many aspect, so...)

After the dinner we played some games and Mahjong. And it happened to be LC's birthday on 29th, so we threw in a small surprise as well.
It was good fun! A good CNY eve.

In preparation for Chinese New Year

According to Chinese tradition, major house cleaning is carried out before Chinese New Year. So me and David took some time and effort to clean up the crowded living room. Our living room is rather spacious given the side of the whole house, but there are a lot of stuffs, mainly stuffs left behind by our friends, cluttered in the main living room area. So it was not very 'living-able' before the cleaning. We simply don't use that area...

OK, so we spent a whole day throwing things out and did some major rearrangement. We boxed up small items and stacked the boxes. The end result is very pleasing. I'm impressed with the level of improvement on its functionality and look. So I'm very happy with that. And we added a bit of artistic touch to finish it too, hence the bicycle wheel high up. Haha!

Besides the cleaning, we also went to get some new clothes to mark the new year. We went to Harbourtown and did a quick sample of many shops and eventually settled on a $10 shirt from FILA (marked down from $45!! Hehe, good buy!). It's white with red collar and nice patches on the side. It has to be somehow red or bright for the CNY atmosphere.

I also checked out the Nike shop and got myself a pair of running shoes. It looks quite similar to my first pair of Nike. The price is similar too after 40% discount. It's been hard to find a pair of Nike with air with not too outrageous design under $100. This one fits all my criterion and it's comfy. I like it, I like it a lot. It's good shoes. ;)

The pair of Nike I got in 2003 has worned apart a year ago. And I magically found a pair of rather new shoes in my house left behind by my ex-housemate's ex-housemate. So that postpone my search for a good pair of sport shoes for almost a year.

It was a fruitful shopping spree.

Australia Day Spectacular Fireworks

It's Australia Day today, a big event that stops the nation. Lingcai called to go watch the fireworks together, so Yeeting, Edwards and me went together. We cycled to South Perth (Mill Point Road) to see the whole fireworks with Perth city backdrop.

On the way to the venus, there are many interesting events here and there including air stunt shows and many cool boats on the Swan river.

The Fireworks is spectacular. Just so much of "Wow"! Totally enjoyed it. I took a few shots of the fireworks but mainly video, to take back to my housemate to watch it afterwards. He's on duty delivering pizza tonight so he missed out. I thought it's public holiday, he should get double paid, but it's not the case! :(

To end this post, I shall take on the aussie spirit and shout out loud:

Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!
Ooi! Ooi! Ooi!

Chinese new year around the corner

I was changing ISP for the last 2 weeks. No internet at home is rather inconvenient.
Today the setup kits finally arrived and I'm back online. Yahoo!!

It's Chinese New Year the coming Sunday. So there's some cleaning to do at home, and some events to prepare for. The last time I spent Chinese New Year overseas was wuite a while ago... Back in my time in Hobart.

Also, it's Australia Day tomorrow. Heard that it'll be fireworks. I shall check it out.

Happy Australia Day to my fellow Aussie mates!

Happy Chinese New Year to my family and Chinese friends.

Some Chinese New Year festive photos here.

His name is Tan Ee Hang

Yup, The little Tan's name is finally fixed. Ee Hang, he's gonna be. In Chinese it is 陈宇航. 宇 means Universe, 航 means sailing. I like the name. Very wide and ambitious!
And the translation is done well too. Ee Hang, instead of straight pinyin of Yu Hang. It has the Chinese Malaysian way in its composition and also avoids being pronounced by English speakers as "You hang"!! :P

4 degree of separation from Google Blog

I was checking my email on Gmail just now and saw a Web Clip on top of my mailbox,
"Official Google Blog - Open federation for Google Talk - 13 hours ago".

As my usual curiosity works, I checked it out. Just one more story from Google. But then, I started to drift in the virtual flow by clicking on the first link down there: Google Talk Merits Other IMs to see how is GTalk better than other IMs.

And there's nothing much to read on that short post. But it turned out that the guy is a Malaysian Blogger! Driven by curiosity and driftism again, I click on the top of the page Random Citations to see what else he has to offer.

Bla bla bla... nothing really catch my eye until the sidebar:
What I read!
* My Photos
* Sister in Harvard
* Something smells fishy
* Just so you know
* Malaysia Chinese Students Blog
* WWW inventor's Blog
* Own Free Domains
* a Baha'i Friend
* Taste the World
* I'm XinYi
* Jimmy Messinis
* Sugar & Spicy
* Mtbeauty
* Biologisvensk
Sugar & Spicy ?! That's the exact same blog name as a friend of mine. I clicked it through and it is! ??!!

And on Sugar & Spicy sidebar again:
Friends' Blogs
* TzuYen's Blog
* Shih Ching's Blog
* Catarina's Blog
* Ke-vin's Blog
* Lynne's Blog
* Gibson's Blog

There it is, back to my own blog!

So, in summary:
Google Blog --> Random Citations --> Sugar & Spicy --> My blog

Degree of separation = 4

I suspect the degree of separation online is lesser than in real life. Hm... well, online is part of the real life, what am I talking about?! OK, put it this way, the degree of separation is a lot easier to trace online.
If you play with friendster and have lots of friends there. You'll be surprised to know this friend is a good friend of another of your friend from a totally different group/location/race/language/field. Amazing!

OK. My driftism on this session shall end here. So should you too, go back to work! Hehehe...

Siggraph meeting: 3D scan stuffs

I went to Siggraph Perth meeting tonight.
Phil Dench from Headus gave a very interesting talk on 3D scanning work they've done. From millions of triangle meshes --> spline surface or subdivided polygonal surface --> flattened UV texture of bump/displacement map, it gives a very good explanation of how the very detail 3D model is simplified for fast animation and rendering and re-detailed using bump/displacement map to get back the fine detailed look for final rendering.
A very good overview introduction on one part of the CG movie/game production process. Very interesting. And the 3D morph between Phil & killeroo is really cool!

Nick has been back from Sydney for awhile and I finally got to see him tonight. So we (Jim, Minh, Jason, Nick & me) went to Lido for Vietnamese dinner after the meeting. Heidi joint later too.

Oh ya, Jim has just put up a feedsucker page under onetwenty to get all the cs people's blogs into one place. Cool!

Trifocal tensor estimation Matlab code

I came back to the office after coding at home last week. Tested out the trifocal tensor estimation code and it only threw me one error and works all well after I fixed that one up!! It's a very good surprise as those 18x27 matrices and 3x3x3 tensor are quite tedious to calculate. And I've just understand how to read tensor notation 2 weeks ago, so I was very happy that all the code worked just like that.

Again, carefully laying out the theory and equations before jumping into coding proved to be a good practise. The 25-line notebook is a bit too small for the crazy matrix expansion, filling up the whole page... It kind of looks something like phd work when I flip around those pages of matrices. Hahaha!!

After the code runs, I still wasn't convinced that it is correct, so I cross check it with the code I from the Hartley & Zisserman's book from Oxford VGG website, and it's all good! Yahoo!!
I wrote this code because I searched the internet and couldn't find trifocal tensor estimation from noisy >7 corresponding points in three images. I'll publish this code on my website soon, so vision researchers can use it in the future. And I might get famous, hehehe!! :P
See my matlab page for its future appearance.

The years in Tassie with the engi Barrel

Accidentally found this UTas Engineering society page, and some snaps of me that I don't remember. So many familiar faces, most of them I can't remember their names, or I never knew their names to start with. That was the first time I ventured myself into Aussie mates and I had to admit, I don't understand their jokes 99% of the time. And as I don't consume beer like a fish and support any footy team, there wasn't much common topic to chat about back then.

John Shield and Nick Jones are probably the only two I can remember their names. I worked with Nick in Cadbury (yes, the chocolate factory) as student engineers at the end of 3rd year for 3 months. So I had some more contact with him than others.

But although I don't remember their names, those faces reminded me of my fond time back in Hobart.

This one is from 2001/03/09 BBQ, and I think it's Aaron getting a sausage from me. He's a dad of twins now.

And this one from 2001/03/15 BBQ, The guy is John Shield, president of the Engi Society 2001.

And this is me learning to pour a perfect beer on 2001/03/30 Barrel.

I was so super stylish back then. Haha!

Oh! By the way, if you want to check out those photos linked from the page, I have to warn you that it contains high level of crazy stuffs due to beer intoxication. Haha!
I was quietly observing the crazy world around me during those mega barrel! Amazing!!

AMWA to congratulate TEE scholar

Tonight there was a special dinner organise by AMWA to present the inaugural AMWA Award to Adrian Khoo who won the 2005 Beazley Award!

So we met at Makan Makan Restaurant in Vic Park (my 2nd or 3rd time there) and had some great time. I met a young editor of Oriental Post Elvie L T Yap who knew Chingching Koh whom I knew back in Tasmania. Small world hey.

The photos are up on AMWA Photo gallery.

Danno is off for awhile, should we too?

I got this notes on my desk today, and under it is the CIV4 DVD and manual!!!! Danno called me the other day while he was in KMart getting this, asking me if I want a copy too, it was on sale for $60+. I resisted it as I know if I get a copy, I'd spend a hell lot of time on it, and probably ruin a period of my life.

Ah! I've spend an hour this afternoon reading the manual. I guess I'll eventually install it and check it out. But I need to have the will to not be sucked into it for hours or days! And I will have the will.

It's a good game. I like it. I like it a lot!

New student card

UWA is introducing a new magnetic student card. The metal chip is replaced with some kind of magnetic embedded in the card. All the access control devices are changed to non-contact card readers too.
The new system is a lot more convenient and the card won't wear out as fast. Because we don't have to slot the card into the card reader anymore, just place it close to the card reader and a pleasant beeping sound will acknowledge access granted.

It's good time for a change because my old student card is worn out and almost torn in the middle.

Here's the old card and new card comparison

And the stylish new card reader

Summer is here!

It's getting hot here in Perth. It reached 37 degree Celcius on Friday!! And I saw some scary evidence of the heat -- Shopping dockets left in my car turned black in 2 days, and the plastic NO SMOKING sign in my car deformed into melted shape due to the heat!!

I wonder how hot it gets inside the car under the sun...

The fans at home finally get to work. And my shorts are out too.

My hair is getting long and irritating. Maybe it's time to shave bold again.

Trifocal Tensor is cool!

I've been reading seriously about trifocal tensor from Forsyth & Hartley's books for the past week, making notes and crunching matrices and I understand most of the stuffs in that chapter now.
Yeah, making notes is really a must to accompany reading if it's to fully absorb the content. I find it useful and enjoyable. Just a little bit slow on reading. But there is a lot less of coming back to front forgetting what I've read.

For the general audience, Trifocal tensor is the geomatry of three camera configuration captured in a 3x3x3 tensor ( or 3D matrix ). With the trifocal tensor, one can recover the position of a point in a view given its corresponding point positions in two other views. The geometry is elegant. And the tensor notation is very compact, capturing a lots of stuffs in a few notations. It is beautiful maths!

It's very intimidating at first to see the jargon and horrible matrices with multiple subscripts and superscripts. But after sitting down quietly to crunch through the maths, it all makes good sense. :)

Welcome little Tan

Tan Jin Gu
My cousin Pin gave birth to a chubby baby boy on Monday 02/01/06. It's been a really long wait. He's predicted to come out on Christmas day, but he skipped it. He then skipped boxing day, and day after and after and after, even skipped new year eve and new year day!!
He must be feeling very confortable in the womb. Just didn't want to come in to this wild world for as long as he can stay in there... It's been such a long wait that I gave him a nick name of jin-gu, so the full name is "wait so long" in hokkien.

N-year later when jin-gu is old enough to understand this post, I wonder what would his respond to his funny uncle. :P
Hey, be sure to leave a message here if you're jin-gu, Hahaha!

Congratulations Pin and KH! And to the grandparents too.

Beware of PayPal phishing email

I got an email in my Paypal folder telling me that my account access is limited. The email appeared to have come from service@intl.paypal.com. I haven't used my paypal account for a while and thought that it was quite strange. I then followed the link and try to check what happened to my account.

Luckily I haven't used my account for a while that I've forgotten my password, I put in a password and got through the fist "security check" and got to a page to put in all my details again. I then suddenly realised it could be one of those phishing email to get people's credit card number!!!
I googled some text from my email and found this:
Why is Your Account Access Limited -- Yes! It is highly probably that it's a phishing email!!!!

The website is
http://resolutionsvr.com/www.paypal.com/login.htm
The layout and links are all the same as the official paypal website.

Stupid me! I later found out that I didn't enter the correct password for the phishing site because I've forgotten about it. But I still reset the password to be safe.

Man! Those phishermen are getting better every day!! I nearly got it this time! Must be careful!!

Here's the evil email that nearly got me!!

beautiful rainbow on Golden backdrop

This evening I went to airport to pick up a friend coming back from Malaysia. The whole day has been rather warm and a thick layer of cloud has built up in the sky. I set off at 7pm while the sunset was taking place. The city skyline was covered with a layer of lush gold colour. It was so beautiful!

Then the best part happened when I turned from Orrong Rd into Leach Hwy -- a full rainbow arches around the road I was travelling, with the golden dusk backdrop. So beautiful...

Good thing you can only experience it when it happens -- I didn't have my camera with me. Bummer!

[Found on SQ's blog some photos he took at almost the same time at another part of Perth, the colour was a little different though.
posted by Tzu Yen at 2005/01/03 11:57 PM
]

And another bummer that followed was that my friend somehow lost my number and I got only his old mobile number. So we missed each other. I was there waiting and trying everything I could to figure out whether he has left or was still in the security room being striped-search. Haha! I was glad to find out (right after I gave up waiting) that he's got back home safe.
But the next emotion that follows was extreme boredom! Driving back alone for another half an hour after driving there alone was not very enjoyable, given that I was also very hungry.
[ You could tell that because I actually spent $1.70 to buy a freakin 50g pack of potato chips from the vending machine. Ha! ]

Well, the lesson I learnt today is

Double confirm with yourself and others each other's contact details before leaving your base.

It can be very inconvenient or even disasterous when you're on the road and can't get into contact with the very person you come to meet.
A backup plan that both know will also be very useful.

New Year eve Korean BBQ and BANG!

Yesterday night we went to Ivy's place for a Korean BBQ dinner. She's got a small table top BBQ stove. Very nice, all the food are well cooked and not burnt. :D~

Then We had a full game of 7-player BANG! Then first time I get to play the full game with my own card. It was good. But we didn't play many rounds because it was getting late...

Recap on my 2005

Dear all,

Thank you for reading my blog for the past year. Thank you for giving me your time to care about what I'm up to. Or at least just giving me a chance to brighten up your day. :)

At the change of year, it's a perfect time to review the past year and set off the direction for the next. I shall do the recap in this post.

Events of the year:

Jan - KC as my temporary housemate, had some real good exchange of thoughts with this witty guy.

Feb - Trip to S'pore, Penang and back home. Met up with some long-lost relatives and good friends. And of course my family and my girl. It was the first time I actively plan my trip and call people I want to meet out. It was fantastic.

March - I started blogging on March 10 | A spontaneous trip to Esperance sees the best beach in my life.

April - Learn about rigid transformation | Pondering about managing life and phd | Stumbled upon David Suzuki's work for the first time, I'm now reading several of his books.

May - Papa mama came to Perth! I took a month off study to catch up with the accompany I miss so much. It was so so so good!

June - Landmark Advanced course blown me away. Life as creation vs. life as survival becomes a lifelong battle worth to fight. Survival mechanisms take place whenever I'm not creating possibility and life is normal. When inspiring possibility is created, life takes new height and the experience of aliveness transformed. | Freedom of Choice

July - Landmark Integrity Seminar | Focus on phd | Great new housemates | Photo award | my 3D body scan | First Dinner@Adam which takes life of its own later . .

Aug - My love Liangliang visited Perth, so sweet. I'm so so so happy. | I gave a lecture |

Sep - Started Landmark SELP, created this project and got into AMWA | DICTA paper accepted | I lost my USB512 | Kes thesis submission inspired me.

Oct - Went to Perth Royal Show | Busy on project.

Nov - My birthday | move office | slow on blogging.

Dec - Cairns DICTA Conference | Christmas Festives celebrations | Lagging many posts: Carol by the candlelight, Xmas light, Xmas eve BBQ... |

Well, this concludes my blogging of 2005. The lagged posts may or may not show up. But I'll try to keep you up to date with my life endeaver. Maybe just a line of post as 2006 shall be busier than ever - I will get my phd done this year.

To rice or not to rice?

I stumbled upon this article about rice when I tried to verify one forwarded email about cancer facts.

It's a bit disturbing because rice is my main diet. But how true is the claims, I don't know. Some part of it sounds sensible. I tried to verified its original source but only found more blind re-posts of it. Some of them have the bloggers' own opinions on top of the article but show no good evidence to back up the claims or citation of its source.

Some discussions are found here.

Here's the article:

DON’T EAT TOO MUCH RICE!

The human body was never meant to consume rice! You see, our genes have hardly changed in more than 30,000 years. However, our food choices and lifestyle have changed dramatically. The caveman would hardly recognize our food or way of life.

Caveman food was never cooked as fire was not yet tamed. Thus, he ate only those foods that you can eat without treatment with or by fire. He ate fruits, vegetables, fish (sushi anyone?), eggs, nuts and meat. Yes, even meat. You can even eat meat raw if you were starving in the forest. You have the necessary enzymes to digest meat.

However, rice, like wheat and corn, cannot be eaten raw. It must be cooked. Even if you were starving in the desert, you cannot eat rice in the raw form. This is because we do not have the system of enzymes to break rice down. You were never meant to eat rice. To make matters worse, you not only eat rice, but also make it the bulk of your food.

In some parts of Asia, rice forms up to 85% of the plate. Even if you take rice, keep it to a minimum. Remember, it is only for your tongue - not your body. Actually, rice and other grains like wheat and corn are actually worse than sugar. There are many reasons:

Rice becomes sugar - lots of it
This is a fact that no nutritionist can deny: rice is chemically no different from sugar. One bowl of cooked rice is the caloric equal of 10 teaspoons of sugar. This does not matter whether it is white, brown or herbal rice. Brown rice is richer in fibre, some B vitamins and minerals but it is still the caloric equal of 10 teaspoons of sugar. To get the same 10 teaspoons of sugar, you need to consume lots of kangkong - 10 bowls of it.

Rice is digested to become sugar.
Rice cannot be digested before it is thoroughly cooked. However, when thoroughly cooked, it becomes sugar and spikes circulating blood sugar within half an hour - almost as quickly as it would if you took a sugar candy. Rice is very low in the "rainbow of anti-oxidants".

This complete anti-oxidant rainbow is necessary for the effective and safe utilisation of sugar. Fruits come with a sugar called fructose. However, they are not empty calories as the fruit is packed with a whole host of other nutrients that help its proper assimilation and digestion.

Rice has no fibre.
The fibre of the kangkong fills you up long before your blood sugar spikes. This is because the fibre bulks and fills up your stomach. Since white rice has no fibre, you end up eating lots of "calorie dense" food before you get filled up. Brown rice has more fibre but still the same amount of sugar.

Rice is tasteless - Sugar is sweet. There is only so much that you can eat at one sitting. How many teaspoons of sugar can you eat before you feel like throwing up? Could you imagine eating 10 teaspoons of sugar in one seating?

Rice is always the main part of the meal - While sugar may fill your dessert or sweeten your coffee, it will never be the main part of any meal. You could eat maybe two to three teaspoons of sugar at one meal. However, you could easily eat the equal value of two to three bowls (20 - 30 teaspoons) of sugar in one meal. I am always amused when I see someone eat sometimes five bowls of rice (equals 50 teaspoons of sugar) and then asks for tea tarik kurang manis!

There is no real "built in" mechanism for us to prevent overeating of rice.
How much kangkong can you eat? How much fried chicken can you eat? How much steamed fish can you eat? Think about that! In one seating, you cannot take lots of chicken, fish or cucumber, but you can take lots of rice. Eating rice causes you to eat more salt.

As rice is tasteless, you tend to consume more salt - another villain when it comes to high blood pressure. You tend to take more curry that has salt to help flavor rice. We also tend to consume more ketchup and soy sauce which are also rich in salt.

Eating rice causes you to drink less water. The more rice you eat, the less water you will drink as there is no mechanism to prevent the overeating of rice. Rice, wheat and corn come hidden in our daily food. As rice is tasteless, it tends to end up in other foods that substitute rice like rice flour, noodles and bread. We tend to eat the hidden forms which still get digested into sugar. Rice, even when cooked, is difficult to digest

Can't eat raw rice? Try eating rice half cooked. Contrary to popular belief, rice is very difficult to digest. It is "heavy stuff". If you have problems with digestion, try skipping rice for a few days. You will be amazed at how the problem will just go away.

Rice prevents the absorption of several vitamins and minerals. Rice when taken in bulk will reduce the absorption of vital nutrients like zinc, iron and the B vitamins. Are you a rice addict? Going rice-less may not be easy but you can go rice-less. Eating less rice could be lot easier than you think. Here are some strategies that you can pursue in your quest to eat less rice:

Eat less rice - Cut your rice by half.
- Barry Sears, author of the Zone Diet, advises "eating rice like spice".

Instead, increase your fruits and vegetables.

Take more lean meats and fish.
You can even take more eggs and nuts.
Have "riceless" meals. Take no rice or wheat at say, breakfast. Go for eggs instead.

Go on "riceless" days - Go "western" once a week.
Take no rice and breads for one day every week. That can't be too difficult. Appreciate the richness of your food. Go for taste, colors and smells. Make eating a culinary delight. Enjoy your food in the original flavors.

Avoid the salt shaker or ketchup. You will automatically eat less rice.

Eat your fruit dessert before (Yes! No printing error) your meals.
The fibre rich fruits will "bulk up" in your stomach. Thus, you will eat less rice and more fruits.

CSSE Christmas Lunch 2005

It's Christmas time again. The whole festive atmosphere really does't help with our aim for ICPR which is due today but have the deadline extended to 5 Jan.

The CSSE department had a Christmas lunch at the Pines restaurant in Observation City. Here's the photos

Back from Cairns

Touched down at 1:20am this morning, WST+0800.

Took about 750 photos for the whole trip. Thanks for Danno's 1GB memory card, otherwise, I'd have to load them out somehow...

It was great to catch up with Jermin, YeeMei and YoongSing in Sydney. Had some great food together and visited Bondi Beach and some very Asian suburbs there...

The DICTA conference was good too, I'm glad I had my presentation on the first day, so once that was done, I can enjoy other talks without stressing out about mine. It went well I think.

After the conference, we went for some touristy stuffs, the Great Barrier Reef snorkelling tour was really an eye opening. It's so beautiful, unreal! So many places that is just so pretty. The colour so blue, so red, so rich!

Will put the photos up a bit later. And more recap shall follow.

It could have been an explosion!!

petrol station accident

It was at Claremont at around 6:50pm today. I finished filling up my petrol and was cleaning up the windscreen. I saw a car drove in on the other lane, I moved closer to my car to minimise the chance of being knocked down but I wasn't really worry or even looking at the car. I was moving quite slow.

Suddenly, BANG! It accelerated into the pumping station!! The station was heavily damaged and seconds later, petrol started flowing out!!!
Then the driver came out of the seemingly-brand-new car and only then realised how bad it was! She seemed devastated, so was he.

I walked towards the shop and waved at the station-keeper about the accident. By then the petrol had wet the floor and started flowing to the street.
I went into my car and drove off the danger zone. And before I drove off the station, I stopped the car on the side, took the camera out and documented the accident.

If there was some naked flame, could it exploded like in the movie? All flame came out and I flew off.... :P

Airports in the morning

My housemates are out of my house. One went back to China for holiday on Friday morning and another went to Melbourne today. They both chose very healthy time to fly - 7:40am on Friday and 6:00am today. So I've been going to bed early an enjoy the early morning fresh air on the way to the airport for the past 2 days.

It's almost summer now. It's broad daylight by 5:30am! It rather strange to be driving on such a bright day and have very light traffic. W.A should have daylight saving!! Then I can play basketball or go jogging till 8pm and still see. :P

We went up

The School is regrouping and relocating postgrads students to put them into the same research group. I have been 'living' in G.01 for two year+ and we moved two floor up to 2.09 today.

pk, danno and me took the benches off the lab on Thursday and we all moved our desk and computer up today. The natural light is good in there, but it's further away from everything good - the toilet, water, and my house! But closer to the undergrads lab and tutorial room.

A cool video documenting our moving in activities is linked here for your visual pleasure. Well, we're computer vision research group, it makes sense to have this.

Apparently, this moving up event has been widely reported.

CookingByNumbers.com

I always thought of using computer to do things like that. Have a record of whatever I buy and put them in fridge. Then use computer to automatically search for recipes that the ingredients I have can make.
It'll be good to also keep track of what's going to be expired so have a timeline queue of what urgently need to be consumed... Haha!!

And I found this website that does the search. :)

Happy Birthday to me :)

Yeah! It's my birthday! I turned 26th.
My housemate, Zheng (or Leo) called me at 11 something and asked me to come back from uni to help him with his EE exam. So I came back with a little suspician as he never really called me at that time for this kind of thing, he usually just wait for me to come back, and the time was rather spot on.... Well anyway, it may just be my own thoughts. So I just came back as normal and he did have some problems for me and I helped him as usual.
Then he played a video for me to watch and I was happily watching that without having much other braincells to think about anything else... He went out of the room and suddenly a big crowd rushed into the room with candles on cake. =.=!!!

As a scout, I learned to "be prepared". I kind of think it may happen or it may not. But I was truely surprised by the number. The undergrads are all having exams so I was quite touched that they take the time out to join my birthday celebration. :)
I'm so blessed with my friends, you.

Thank you!

We had the song ceremmony, wishes, blow candles, cake cutting (not touching the bottom to avoid having green baby). Then eveyone was busy munching the delicious cake. I was requested to play the guitar and sing a song. So I did, it was a pleasure to sing a song to wish myself happy birthday and another to thanks for the friendships. After that it's all chitchatting, till almost 4am.

The song was video recorded. And I watched it the next day. It was strange that for the first time in my life, I like my own voice and guitar sound. The weird yeeeerrr feeling of listening to my own voice is not there anymore, and I actually enjoy listening to the song. :)
I think I just learnt

to appreciate and acknowledge my abilities instead of denying or being embarrassed by them.

Winthrop Tower tour with LACE

Language And Cultural Exchange (LACE) is a postgraduate social group within UWA. It organises a gathering every fortnight. For this one, we went up to the highest point in UWA - the Winthrop tower.
Good view, fresh air, well deserved after a long stair-climbing exercise.
Met up with a few Chinese mates who also frequent the LACE events - 苗玺、李超、萱萱 from 贵州、哈尔滨、台湾. There are probably not many people who know their chinese names here in Perth. So, my diclosure of their identities shall have little significance.

Melbourne Cup lunch

It's Melbourne Cup again! Our department organised a potluck lunch. I made herbal tea egg(茶叶蛋), which is well-received among the asian staffs and postgrads. Many who saw it for the first time thought it's chocolate-egg, or some kind of century-egg. Some are brave enough to try and like it, others dared not touch it. :D

It was again a good feed. :)~

Dry throat weekends

Had a weekends of dry throats.

It started on Friday. Somehow I woke up with it.
I could feel the pain when I was teaching in the lab. It was Project 2 due date for CES105, so it was a busy session. And I had to restrain myself to eat only a small piece of the Apple Strudle when we celebrated Jason and EJ's birthday.
[More on Corica's apple strudle on asia1 and makansutra]

Saturday I went to the AMWA meeting at the Malaysia consulate office. AMWA stands for The Association of Malaysians in Western Australia. It's established just last month and now in the process of growing and forming sub-committees to provide services to the Malaysian community in WA. I'm really glad to meet the committee personally and voice out the need of young adult Malaysians here.
The committee really want to make a difference to the Malaysian community here, and most of them seem down to earth, open to comments and criticisms and not like a bunch of bureaucrats. Hope it'll remains like that. :)

On Sunday I was supposed to go to a friendly service at ShihChing's church at 9am, however, I woke up at 8am (after 8 hours of sleep) and still felt a very dry throat, so I thought getting more rest instead of going to the service was a better choice for me then. So I had another 4 hours of sleep after letting Rina who offered to pick me up know. And I did feel a lot better after the good sleep. :)

In the afternoon, Rongxin invited us out for drink and dinner to celebrate her upcoming birthday. So we did. We went to Chopstick (重庆美食家) for sichuan steamboat. It's a double soupbase steamboat (鸳鸯火锅) such that there are two separate compartments in one steamboat, the inner one is super spicy hot and the outter one is normal soup.
For my throat's sake, I had to only dip into the outer soup... It was good. :)

We had a couple of games in Timezone and had a good 2 hours of "Truth or Dare" game in Annie's place before we headed home.
The "Truth or Dare" game I learnt today was worth elaborating. We all pick a card from a deck, and the winner (who got the biggest card) gets to ask the loser to choose between "truth or dare". For "truth", the loser will be asked a question and have to answer it with ultimate honesty. [It is such a great way to get to know each other, asking something that you never get to ask in normal conversations.] For "dare", the loser will be asked to perform some act that is not usually seen. [It's also a great way for a person to express some part of themselves that's not usually expressed. To push through some embarassment/comfort zone]
I personally feel that such a game if played with respect, encouragement and authenticity, can be a great way to build friendship. But if it's directed to embarass, insult or dig out the dark secrets will be rather harmful and uncomfortable.
I think we played it the good way, lots of encouragement for 'dare acts' and respect for the 'truth' questions & answers. I really enjoyed it - I got to know my friends a lot better and had heaps of fun, can stop laughing to see the unseen talents.
It actually surprised me because I was a bit worried it'll go towards to crazy/sick path when we started the game. I'd love to play it more. :)

That is it for this weekends of dry throat. Hope it'll be good after I wake up 8 hours later. Good night.

Jason's be-earlied Birthday Party at Adam's place

Jason's party

Jason's birthday is on this coming Friday. But we had an earlier celebration.
BBQ @ Adam's apartment. Sausages, onion, fishballs and capsicum. (I love to see the fishball pops on the grill)

It's mainly the CS postgrads and the Tuesday night church discussion fellows. Also, I finally get to meet Cat, who I heard for a while from Adam. :) Cute!

We BBQed and then stayed for some boardgames. A fun day.

Dinner and Games @ G.Dunn's place

Angie and Chris came back from their Europe trip, so we had another dinner & game night.
Food wise, we prepared so much! I made sour & hot Thai Vermicelli, Angie made Lamb curry (with apple & sultana), Adam made pizza and Tiramisu, Rina prepared a good fruit platter and Tone brought some freshly baked pizza biyanka(?). It's so great the food! Adam's pie/pastry/pizza always amazed me, this time it's the crispy pizza, :)~ The lamb is so tender, and it's sweet, it's very very nice. My vermicelli was pretty good too, I like it with more chilli. hehe!
After the main course, I was very full. But the rest were still good enough to erouse my tastebuds. :D

We played quite a few games on the night. The highlight was on Shadows over Camelot. It's a very different boardgame that all players play together as a team to defeat the 'dark forces'. So there's a strong sense of "For the glory of XXX", "I'll sacrifice to defeat the evil"... A lot of fun! :D

Multicultural week Food fair

It's Multicultural Week (MCW) again.
I went to the Spring Feast organised by UWA ISS and the famous Curtin Pasar Malam
Heaps of food stalls, mostly asian.
The UWA one has mostly student foodstalls. The Curtin one has many stalls run by actual business, it's way bigger, and has live band performing Chinese, English, Indonesian songs.
However, performance wise, I still feel that the International night of UTas has so much better performances! Check it out here: http://www.utas.edu.au/mcw/.

The photos of the food feast are here:

Opera or Firefox?

Just yesterday I found out that Opera Web Browser becomes another FREE browser. A big competitor to firefox.

I haven't used Opera myself before, but I've played with it and it's fantastic! It's probably the best (yes, better than firefox) but it was not free before. So I went with Firefox.

Hmm.. I'm now at the cross road. To Opera or not to Opera?
It's good and free, but it's not Open Source! Oh well, I may use a dual system in the mean time to test them side by side.

However, because Opera is not Open Source, it doesn't have heaps of great plug-ins (or extensions) like Firefox does. I love the foxytunes, adblock, StumbleUpon and Googlebar (which I just used to one-click blog this).

Royal Perth Show 2005

It's the last day of the Perth Royal Show I decided to go and have some fun. There's a Malaysia - guest nation exhibition there and that added to my inclination to chaeck out the show this year.

So I asked my housemates, he asked his friends and eventually Derong, Rongxin and me decided to go.

It was fun! Heaps of interesting things happening. We kept being distracted on the way when we decided to go to a certain exhibition/place.

The highlights for us: car stunt show by Holden, lots of cool drifffffts, fly over broken bridge; friendly/funny clowns on the street; animals animals and animals, so cute, so cool; rollercoaster games, flying high up in the air, stress releasing scream, I was a bit dizzy after the ride though; Win-soft-toy-look-easy-but-actually-hard games, got sucked into a few of those, looks very doable, but it takes some precise skill to play well enough to get the prize; Pig racing and diving, cute pigs, great fun to watch.

The biggest highlight is the finale fireworks. It's bloody fantastic! We sit on the side of the oval where it's set off. The whole view is covered by colourful lights. Woo Yeah!!

On a side note, I also get to meet the committee of the newly launched Association of Malaysians in Western Australia (AMWA). I'm very surprised to know that there's no such association in place before this one is launched so recently! I shall learn more with them and contribute to the community.

Took some 150 photos too.

UWA EXPO: Me with Aibo

(Backtrace blogging)

It's UWA Open day again! I love open day. There are so many interesting stuff going on all over the campus, and I get to demonstrate something and talk to the general public about cool stuffs in computer science.

This year I moved on from managing the vision research demo, in which we have a camera that take picture of people and generate processed images like edge detection or Chinese Text art.
Wei asked me to help her with the SONY AIBO robot dog. Haha!!! It was a heck loads of fun! So cute the dog. And I got a cool Aibo T-shirt too. Bonus!!!

The down side of this year is that I spend too much time playing with the dog and interact with people coming into the department, I didn't get to see other exhibition around uni... Oh well...

Happy Mid-Authum Festival

Thanks Yee Ting's parents for the mooncake, Rina for chrisanthemum tea, and the weather for showing the moon. My housemates and I had a little half-an-hour mooncake party eating mooncake, sipping chrisanthemum tea, admiring the moon and chatting in front of our house.

To all, Happy Mid-Authum Festival. 中秋节快乐

Malaysia Day

JeffOoi.com reminded me that today is the day that Malaysia was born, 42 years ago.
Sabah and Sarawak joint in the peninsular Malaya to form Malaysia.

With the rich timber and oil industry, the two eastern states contribute a lot to Malaysia economy. We shall remember this day and acknowledge.

Multi-V is sweet without sugar

I had "sore throat, light fever, running nose, thick mucus" cycle since Monday. Now I'm at the end of the cycle, still have some mucus to clean up...

I think I caught some rain on Sunday night. It was cold. And sore throat turned up on Monday. I quickly had some Dongcongcao capsules and acupuncture treatment. But lacking sleep the killer. So the cycle started! :(

This is the first time I got sick for the past 2 years. It used to be an annual event... And it usually drags for a whole week, feeling like dead. So the acupuncture and Chinese medicine do work. But not for extreme abuse I guess... :P

2 packs of Multi-V juice appeared on my desk this afternoon. SQ brought them in from Rina. Thanks! It's no preservative and no added sugar, but it tastes sweet. :)

USB512 where are you?

I realised that I lost my USB 512MB thumbdrive couple of days ago... Not sure when it happened but I thought it might be on last Friday. My keychain somehow loosened up and my car key dropped out. But I didn't realise whether the USB drive was still there... (yes, I carry it everywhere as a keychain).

Sad sad sad... Now I can't copy my photos from home to school... :(

On and Opi

I steal this title from ShihChing, I think it's GOLD!

Yes, the new iPod nano looks great! I love the build in clock so you can use it as an alarm clock!!!
But it lacks the IPod Shuffle straight USB connection though.. Have to carry another cable around...

matlab code in PhD comics

Haha!! It's great to see Matlab code. :) Instead of all those Java and C! :P

Calling all Malaysian new-Australia-PRs

I'm starting a project.

Building a Malaysian new-Australia-PR social network in Perth.

With the new immigration regulations introduced some 4 years ago which allows international students to apply for Permanent residency in Australia, there are quite a number uni students from Malaysia who took the opportunity and stayed in Australia after their graduation.
I am one of this lucky batch.

Many of us stayed to either further study or start professional career. But there's no social network among this group of people who have very similar background and current situation.

I heard from many of my friends and felt sometimes myself that there's something missing within the social network we have - the familiar feeling among fellow Malaysians to share current career challenges.
We're a bit too old to hang around with young uni students from Malaysia, but too young for those uncle auntie who migrated here 20 years ago from Malaysia. And there lack the Malaysian background with work colleagues...

There must be quite a number of us here in WA but we don't know each other. So I thought why stuck in my own room while there may be others of the same concerns out there. We can create a network to know each other and meet up regularly/irregularly and we'll find people of the same interests/challenges/background in the network to share and enrich our lives.
You wouldn't mind knowing one more person who just clicks with you, would you?

I just started the project would like to spread the words and invite people to join in.

I'd really like to get into contact with you if you are one of the Malaysian new-Australia-PRs here in Perth or are interested in joining us. Leave me a message, I'll get back to you.

Cheers,
Tzu Yen

Kes submitted her thesis

(backtrace blogging)

Kes submitted her thesis and the department threw in an afternoon tea that afternoon to celebrate that! Well done Kes!

Kes changed supervisor 2 years ago and changed quite a big part of her research direction, but she eventually got everything done in time. Her advice is as long as you're focused and know what to do, it doesn't really take that long. That is reassuring and inspiring to me.

I will learn from you Kes. :)

Kes is now back to Thailand and serves in the meteorology department.
Wishing you all the best!!
